Beyoncé, Venus Williams, Nicole Kidman are Met Gala 2026 co-chairs

NEW YORK (AP) — The new Met Gala co-chairs have been announced, and it’s a high-powered quartet: Beyoncé, Venus Williams and Nicole Kidman will join Vogue’s Anna Wintour in hosting. A star-studded event next May.

Williams, Having never hosted before, she took on the role seven years after her younger sister and fellow tennis champion, Serena, became co-chair. The exhibition aims to celebrate the “decorated body” as it has appeared in art through the centuries. It will combine garments with museum objects to show how fashion has long been associated with various art forms.

“This is a show that can really live in the museum in fascinating ways and draw from all the different areas of our collection — paintings, sculpture, drawings,” Max Hollein, the museum’s CEO and director, said in an interview last month.

As always, the show, under the supervision of Andrew Bolton, curator in charge of the Costume Institute, will be organized thematically around different body types. For example, this would include “nude body” and “classical body”, but also less traditional topics such as “pregnant body” and “aging body”.

The new exhibition will also have a spectacular new home. “Costume Art” will inaugurate new gallery space spanning approximately 12,000 square feet (1,115 square metres) just outside the museum’s Great Hall – giving fashion a prominent place in the museum while also helping control crowds at heavily attended exhibitions. The new Conde M. Nast Gallery – created from what was formerly the museum’s retail store – will house not only all of the Spring Costume Institute exhibitions, but other shows from different parts of the museum.

Bolton has said that the gallery space will be “an important moment for the department, acknowledging the important role of fashion not only in art history but also in contemporary culture.”

Venus Williams returned to competition in July at the age of 45 after nearly 1 1/2 years away from the tour, although she never retired. She became the oldest player to play singles at the US Open since 1981. Meanwhile, recently Serena Williams threw cold water on the idea That she might be preparing to return to tennis.

“Costume Art” opens to the public on May 10, 2026 and runs through January 10, 2027.
