Our favorite composite artificial Christmas trees were easy favorites of the interior designers who helped us test and review them. One assembler called it the “Hermes of Christmas trees” and it had both the beautiful look of evergreen branches and bright built-in LED lights. The slight slope at the top makes it easy to hang ornaments on the branches, and the mix of needle types gives it a great texture. This is a great investment tree that is on sale.

Flocked trees have been covered in artificial snow for an extra Christmasy look, and our favorite flocked design is this King of Christmas tree. Out of all the trees we tested, this tree actually gave the appearance of fresh snow, which is difficult to do artificially. The branches are nice and thick, but hanging ornaments around the clump is a little difficult.

Of all the trees we tested, this is not only the cheapest tree we liked, but it was also rated the easiest artificial Christmas tree to inflate due to its flexible branches. The easy fluff makes it look fuller and more natural than trees that aren’t as easy to do with, and makes the cheaper tree look higher class. There is a wrapped pole in the middle which gives a realistic look.

Best Smart Light Deals

These lights are the star of my garage this holiday season and are one of my favorite sets that I tested for my smart Christmas lights guide. After being in storage for a year, these lights connected easily to my app and Wi-Fi without any issues, and it was easy to take a quick photo with the app to re-map the lights with my current setup. I love the range of designs you can find or create in the Twinkly app, and it was easy to set timers so they turn on and off at the right time.

These are my top picks for smart Christmas lights. You can put them on your house, your walls, your tree, your balcony railing, whatever you want! Then use the app and your camera to map out the lights and start creating the design you want. Like Strings above, the app has plenty of designs you can choose from or create, and easy controls all around.

Permanent Outdoor Lights S4

We’ve been testing a lot of outdoor permanent lights this holiday season, and this set from Eufy is one of the standouts. WIRED reviewer Kat Merk found the app easy to navigate for choosing colors and schedules for her lights, and liked the extensive offering of holiday presets to take advantage of. There’s an AI feature for creating customized light shows, and the Eufy S4 lights work with the Matter protocol, so it can sync with the smart home ecosystem from Apple, Google, and Alexa.

E1 AI Permanent Outdoor Lights

If the sales aren’t finding permanent outdoor lights that cheap for you, you’ll be thrilled to see that our budget set is on sale for the same price you’ll find regular smart lights. WIRED reviewer Martin Szymer is happy with these lights at his home, but he cautions that you’ll have to avoid annoying in-app AI to get access to regular controls. Once you click behind it, it’s easy to control and customize these lights just like you would any set of smart lights.

Keep an eye on the model and waterproofing; While the 150-foot version has an IP65 rating for the lights and IP67 for the power adapter, the 50-foot and 100-foot models have an IP65 rating for the light kit but no weatherproofing for the power adapter, so it must be in an enclosed outlet. If you’re using an outdoor outlet without weather protection, upgrade to the 150-foot size.
