STUDIO CITY, Los Angeles (KABC) — Music producer Benny Blanco’s mother was unharmed when thieves broke into her Studio City home Monday night while she was home alone.
The victim is also Blanco’s wife and mother-in-law of singer Selena Gomez. Authorities did not identify her by name, but said she was shaken after three men entered the two-story home.
She locked herself in the bathroom and called 911 when she heard the suspects enter through the sliding glass door, which was broken. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, officers responded to the home around 9:15 p.m., but the suspects had already fled the scene.
Police said the suspects ransacked several rooms and fled with some property, but it was not immediately known what exactly they took.
Property records and neighbors identified the resident victim as Blanco’s mother. She told investigators that the intruders kicked down the bathroom door during the incident.
Details of the large-scale infiltrators were not available.
Some of the victim’s neighbors told ABC7 there has been an increase in residential break-ins in the area recently.
“Do I feel safe? Much less than when we moved here,” said Studio City resident Tim Knipe. “We came here about 27 years ago to the Carpenter School District, and it was like you could let your kids roam all the time, it was OK. Now, not so much.
“We check our locks, make sure the alarm is on,” Knipe said. “It’s a very different life.”
