The BBC Scotland headquarters in Glasgow has been evacuated after a fire.

It is understood to have happened in a plant room at roof level on the fifth floor of the Pacific Quay building.

All staff evacuated the building on the banks of the River Clyde when the fire alarm went off at around 06:30.

BBC Radio Scotland Breakfast ceased broadcasting, switching to pre-recorded music and breakfast television bulletins were suspended.

Firefighters arrived within minutes of the alarm being raised and at least seven fire engines were dispatched to the scene.

It is understood the fire was discovered by a member of security staff who raised the alarm.

The orange glow of the fire could be seen through the windows to the right of the illuminated BBC Scotland sign on the south side of the building.

A BBC Scotland spokesperson said: “We are grateful to the emergency services for their quick deployment to the site.

“We are working hard to ensure the safety of all our colleagues and will resume our regular services on-air as soon as possible.”
