Producing an EV requires metal forging, battery manufacturing, painting and chip manufacturing – all processes that drive Tesla to build in Nevada and Texas.
Tesla’s Fremont factory was a former NUMMI plant (GM/Toyota, operated since 1962). When Tesla needed to expand battery production, they built the Gigafactory Reno, Nevada – Not California – because it was virtually impossible to permit battery cell manufacturing. Cybertruck went to the factory Austin, Texas.
