Ask HN: Is building for the web even worth it now?

Recently, I have found that my relationship with the Internet is changing. I moved here in the early 2000s and it’s always been the first place I go for entertainment, advice and work.

But gradually, I find myself completely isolated from the internet. Whenever I see a text post, I start asking myself: Is this even a real person? Am I just talking to a bot?

Whenever I see a yellow image on any of my social media feeds, I mentally switch off. I know it’s made by AI and I find it hard to connect with anything AI-made, no matter how good it is

The same applies for any AI video that appears on my feed. It doesn’t make me scroll any further, it makes me question why I’m here and eventually I leave.

I know I can’t be alone. I loved the Internet because it was a place where I could connect with people from all over the world. But now, it seems like I spend half my energy trying to figure out which one is real, which one is AI

Eventually the lines will blur and as a man in his late 30s, I really don’t want to spend much of my time on Earth talking to a bot.

As someone who used to create and build for the web, I find myself increasingly alienated and discouraged. I’m pouring into the rapidly emptying cup

Anyone else feel the same way?
