Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk said after Saturday’s defeat that “everybody in the team has to take responsibility” and Slott’s side have managed just one win in their last seven league matches, with the shadow of his predecessor looming over the Dutchman.
“I think Slott has a big job in getting them going again and getting wins,” Rooney said.
“The big thing is that when he has results like this, Klopp’s name keeps coming up.
“It’s a bit like the presence of Sir Alex Ferguson. For example, when David Moyes (at Manchester United) and (Louis) Van Gaal came in, Fergie’s name always came up.
“With Slott, Klopp keeps getting brought up. ‘He’s not Jurgen Klopp, he’s not as good as Jurgen Klopp.’
“But I think Liverpool fans need to move away from him and get behind him.”
