Thanksgiving is almost here, which means millions of people are preparing to travel to visit family or friends for the holiday.
If you need to mail a package or pick up some prescription medications this week, it might be a good idea to plan ahead, as some pharmacies will be closed on Thursday, November 27. Some grocery stores, retail stores and restaurant chains will also remain open, though mostly under adjusted hours.
Banks, post offices and stock markets will also remain closed on the holiday.
Here’s what you need to know about major pharmacy chains like CVS and Walgreens, and whether they’ll be open on Thanksgiving this year.

Is CVS open on Thanksgiving?
A company spokesperson told USA TODAY that CVS pharmacies will remain open on Thanksgiving, although some locations may have reduced hours. The company encourages customers to visit CVS.com or call their local store first to check hours.
Is Walgreens open on Thanksgiving?
According to the company’s website, most Walgreens locations will be closed on Thanksgiving. Places and pharmacies will be open 24 hours; However, non-24-hour locations will remain closed.
Customers are encouraged to call their nearest Walgreens location or use the store locator function on the company’s website to check specific hours.
Are pharmacies in grocery stores open on Thanksgiving?
All pharmacies at Walmart, Costco, Kroger, Sam’s Club, Food Lion and Target, among other grocery chains, will be closed, the companies confirmed to USA TODAY. Customers are encouraged to check their local store’s pharmacy hours.
