It’s not much, but it’s honest work: Amazon has put the brand new Apple MacBook Neo on sale for the first time since its launch on March 11. The 256GB base configuration has been reduced to $595, and the upgraded 512GB version with Touch ID costs $689.99 – a savings of $4 and $9.01, respectively.
Amazon will likely offer better discounts on the MacBook Neo during its Prime Day sale this summer. (I can’t see it getting dramatically cheaper than this between now and next week’s Big Spring Sale.) But to date, it’s the best deal on new models with no strings attached.
Best Buy has some Neos that are discounted by about $20, but they are open-box, i.e. returned. The Apple Store will give you $100 off, but only if you’re a college student, parent of one, or a school teacher.

The MacBook Neo is powered by a capable A18 Pro chip with 8GB of RAM. It’s not as good at multitasking as the MacBook Air with more memory, but it’s perfect for people who only have a few tabs open at any time. It can perform basic tasks as fast as last year’s M4 MacBook Air – think web browsing and sending email.
In heavy workloads like video editing, it’s just as fast as the 2020 M1 MacBook Air. It offers about 15 hours of battery life per charge.
MacBook Neo review: I think Apple is going to sell millions of these
In terms of features, the Neo comes with a 13-inch Liquid Retina display, a 1080p webcam, a clicky mechanical touchpad, and Dolby Atmos speakers. Its all-aluminum chassis comes in four colors: indigo, silver, blush, and a punchy “citrus” yellow-green. (At the time of writing the Amazon deal was only applicable to silver, but that may change by the time you read this.)

“For students, youth and common users, there is nothing else but [the Neo] At this price,” writes Mashable tech editor Timothy Beckworth, who rates it 4.8/5. (See his full review.)
