Apple is reportedly planning to put ads in the Maps app, . An announcement could be coming as soon as this month, in which ads will appear on iPhones this summer.
It would likely work similarly to ads in Google Maps and Yelp, which let retailers and brands bid for coverage with particular search queries. I’ve personally never found Google Maps ads that annoying, so hopefully Apple’s implementation will be the same.
This potential advertising revenue could seriously boost Apple’s services business, far beyond what it currently generates for the company. The division accounts for about 25 percent of annual revenues but faces challenges in both the short and long term.
Apple has not yet commented on the matter. This idea has been floating around with rumors. The company is already up and running, so the jump onto the map isn’t coming out of left field.
