Apple launches AirPods Max 2 with improved noise cancellation

It’s taken a long time, but Apple has finally upgraded its flagship headphones.

On Monday, Apple announced the AirPods Max 2, a new version of its over-the-ear headphones that originally launched in 2020 (with a minor update in 2024 that only brought a USB-C port).

The new AirPods Max 2 look similar, but they have Apple’s H2 chip inside, which powers a number of new features including Adaptive Audio, Conversation Awareness, Voice Isolation, and Live Translation.

Perhaps the most notable new feature is the improvement in active noise cancellation, which should be 1.5 times more effective than before. Transparency Mode has also been improved, allowing you to hear what’s going on around you even while listening to music.

The new H2 chip, which we already know from Apple’s AirPods Pro 3, also unlocks a number of other smart features like Siri head gestures, camera remote, and loud sound reduction.
