Apple announces even more major executive turnover

Jackson, technically “vice president of environment, policy and social initiatives,” will retire “at the end of January 2026,” Apple says. Newsted, who is currently Meta’s chief legal officer, will take over the role of Apple’s general counsel on March 1, 2026, from Adams, who has been Apple’s general counsel since 2017.

With Jackson’s retirement and Newsted’s coming on board, Apple is also making some organizational changes and handing over some responsibilities to Williams’ COO Sabih Khan. As described by Apple:

The government affairs organization will be transferred to Adams, who will oversee the team until his retirement at the end of next year, after which it will be led by Newsted. Newstead’s position will become Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Government Affairs, representing the combination of the two organizations. The environmental and social initiatives teams will report to Sabih Khan, Apple’s chief operating officer.

Before joining Apple in 2013, Jackson briefly led the EPA in President Obama’s office. Apple promoted Jackson to policy chief in 2015. According to Apple’s website, Adams came to Apple in 2017 after 14 years at Honeywell.
