To take advantage of the recent surge in popularity of the cloud, Anthropic is offering a limited-time promotion that doubles the usage limit for anyone using their AI chatbot during off-peak hours. From March 13 to March 27, users with Free, Pro, Max, and Team plans will get double the usage limit in a five-hour window when using the cloud outside of weekdays between 8am and 2pm ET. According to Anthropic, the promotion is automatic, and users do not need to enable anything to receive benefits.
Anthropic said the promotion applies to anyone using the cloud on web, desktop or mobile, but also to Cowork, Cloud Code, Cloud for Excel, and Cloud for PowerPoint. Previously, Anthropic offered a similar program from December 25 to December 31, with usage limits doubled for Pro, Max 5x or Max 20x customers. However, Anthropic is targeting an even wider audience with its latest promotion as only enterprise users are excluded this time.
Anthropic is marketing the promotion as “a little thank you to everyone who uses the cloud,” but it’s likely linked to its ongoing battle with the Defense Department. After refusing to remove certain AI safeguards for the Defense Department, Anthropic was listed as a supply chain risk and lost its contract with the federal agency. In turn, OpenAI signed an agreement with the Department of Defense, which led many users to decide to boycott ChatGPT in favor of cloud and other AI chatbot alternatives.
