
Anthropic has confirmed the implementation of strict new technical security measures to prevent third-party applications from circumventing its official coding client, Cloud Code, to access the underlying cloud AI models for more favorable pricing and limitations – a move that has disrupted workflow for users of the popular open source coding agent OpenCode.
Additionally but separately, it has restricted the use of its AI models by rival labs, including XAI (via the Integrated Developer Environment Cursor), to train competitive systems in cloud code.
The previous action was explained on Friday by Tharik Scheipper, a member of Anthropic’s technical staff working on the cloud code.
Writing on Social Network X (formerly Twitter), Scheipper said the company had "Cloud has tightened our security measures against circumventing code harnesses."
He acknowledged that the rollout had caused unintended collateral damage, noting that some user accounts were automatically banned for triggering the abuse filter – an error the company is currently reversing.
However, the blocking of third-party integration itself appears to be intentional.
The move targets harnesses – software wrappers that operate a user’s web-based cloud account via OAuth to run automated workflows.
This effectively breaks the link between flat-rate consumer cloud Pro/Max plans and external coding environments.

The team behind OpenCode immediately launched a new premium tier, OpenCode Black, for $200 per month, which reportedly routes traffic through an enterprise API gateway to bypass consumer OAuth restrictions.
