Disney has revealed that the cost of producing its highly acclaimed “Star Wars” streaming series “Endor” has now risen to $698.3 million over its two seasons, as $60.5 million was spent on the final weeks of filming in 2024 and post-production on the show’s second season, Forbes reports.
Looking at recently disclosed and publicly filed records, the budget takes into account everything spent on the production of the series until November 22, 2024.
Millions more are expected to be added this year from final post-production and release costs when these results are released next year. Either way, that’s more than has been spent on any other film in the franchise
The production made heavy use of practical effects and physical sets, which partly explains the large cost of the filming phase.
Production companies filming in the UK are required to file annual financial statements – doing so reveals the costs of the streaming show in terms of production (but not marketing costs).
That said, the production was also the beneficiary of some major tax breaks from the UK government, with 25.5% of the money spent in the country being reimbursed – receiving approximately $142.3 million in total reimbursements and tax credits.
Disney’s net spending on “Endors” dropped to $552.4 million after deducting insurance payments and payments from pandemic grants.
Employees have reportedly been paid $85.5 million – the highest wage bill for any show and film made by Disney in the UK in the last fifteen years.
