Amazon pledges its satellite internet starts this year

Amazon’s satellite-based Internet service, LEO, will make an entry, says company CEO Andy Jassy. Writing in its annual letter, JC claimed that LEO will provide download speeds of up to 1 Gbps, which is much higher than what Starlink currently provides. Sadly, Amazon declined to provide any further details about what the mid-2026 service will look like. But considering that select partners have been plaguing Leo for quite some time already, we can only hope.

The mega-retailer is making some big promises, including fast and download speeds, affordable costs, and direct integration with Amazon’s other products. Of course, the company could also sell itself on the fact that it’s a satellite internet provider that isn’t owned by Elon Musk. But it will have to move forward with its ideas quickly, given how far behind it is in deploying satellites.

ASUS’s ZenBook A16 is set to compete with LG’s Gram Pro 16. It is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X2 Elite and is designed to address the shortcomings found in last year’s ZenBook A14. Was it successful? You’ll have to read his review to get the whole story, but he’s certainly happy to have spent the past week using this thing.

It will start in early 2027.

Greece will, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has announced. Like many countries in Europe and beyond, officials are concerned about the impact of social media on children’s mental and physical health. Big platforms will be in charge of enforcing the ban, backed by heavy penalties enabled by the Digital Services Act.

If you’re still using a Kindle or Fire tablet made in 2012 or earlier, it’ll become a little less useful on May 20th. For models older than that date, the ability to purchase, borrow, or download new titles will be removed. Thankfully, everything that’s on the hardware will already be in place, so don’t worry if you’re only a third of the way through Recollection of past things.

Fancy, but heavy.

Billy Steele for Engadget

Billy Steele is trying his best to find what can only be described as a mixed bag. The excellent audio quality and a wide variety of inputs get high praise, but the heavy weight, exposed wood and limited battery life all hurt the paintwork.

Also about time.

WhatsApp’s CarPlay interface isn’t the prettiest or easiest way to keep in touch with your friends while driving. However, Meta has helped make it a little easier to do something useful without taking your attention off the road.
