Late in Alabama football’s Saturday win over Auburn, the Crimson Tide’s starting running back was injured. Jaime Miller lay on the field and needed help, and did not return.
After the game, Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer provided the latest information on Miller’s health.
“He suffered a lower leg injury,” DeBoer said. “We’ll have to evaluate it here, we’ll probably get more information on Monday.”
If Alabama had lost Saturday’s game to Auburn, Miller and other injured players would have had more time to recover. Instead, the Crimson Tide will be back in action on Saturday when they face Georgia in the SEC Championship Game.
Even with Miller playing most of the time, the Tide’s offense looked inconsistent against Auburn. Nevertheless, UA did enough to bounce back with a thrilling 27–20 victory away from Jordan–Hare Stadium.
Alabama rushed for 158 yards in the game, with Miller leading the team in that category. He finished the game with 83 yards rushing on 15 attempts.
Miller also contributed with two catches for 12 yards during the win. The Crimson Tide squandered the lead, but made enough big plays late to survive a cold night in Auburn.
“Nothing will be given to you, you have to earn it,” DeBoer said. “These guys have done that since day one. They’ve worked for this situational football, on fourth down, no matter what. I think a lot of things that are part of our identity were missed tonight. So I think tonight is just a little bit of what this team is about.”
Alabama moved to 10–2 on the season with the 7–1 win in SEC play. The Crimson Tide will fight for a College Football Playoff spot on Saturday, but could still drop the field to 12 teams if it loses to Georgia in Atlanta.
The SEC Championship Game is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. CT Saturday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The game will be broadcast on ABC.
