ALLEN PARK – Aiden Hutchinson and the Detroit Lions will not participate in the postseason this year.
But Hutchinson will be on all screens this Sunday, serving as a guest analyst for ESPN’s pregame show. Hutchinson will be in the New York studio from 10am on Sunday. He will appear during the three-hour “Postseason NFL Countdown” broadcast.
The star Lions pass rusher will be joining Adam Schefter, Rex Ryan, Randy Moss, Alex Smith, Mike Greenberg and Teddy Bruschi throughout the show. Buffalo Bills-Jacksonville Jaguars and San Francisco 49ers-Philadelphia wild-card matchups fill out Sunday’s playoff offerings.
Hutchinson earned his second Pro Bowl nod and first appearance on the AP All-Pro team. The 25-year-old was named to the second team after leading the NFL with 100 pressures and setting a new career high with 14.5 sacks. Since Pro Football Focus began tracking pressures, there have been only six players to reach 100, and Hutchinson is the only player to do so.
The former Michigan standout played in every game this season and finished second on the team in defensive snaps. He answered every potential concern surrounding last year’s season-ending injury in the process.
Hutchinson is also closed for long periods. He and the Lions agreed to a four-year extension worth $180 million and $141 million guaranteed. With this deal he received the most guaranteed money ever for a non-quarterback player. Now, he’ll get his first break as an ESPN in-studio analyst, having previously made a surprise appearance on NBC’s “Tonight Show” earlier this year.
