Hello, fans of The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, We have good news and bad news. The good news is that you now have the chance to own actual, screen-used props and puppets from the production of that famous, low-rated show. The bad news is that these items are for sale, which doesn’t bode well for the show or the world that will ever return.
A few months ago, news broke that the Jim Henson Company was holding a massive auction of memorabilia from its unforgettable past. items from The Muppets, Maze, Fraggle RockEven more lots were going up for sale on November 25 with the help of Julien’s Auctions. But, what is worrying for fans like us is that there are also around 200 items available here. The Dark Crystal: Age of ResistanceThe incredible Netflix show that only lasted one season. Selling those things feels like an admission that it’s over.
And yet, we here at io9 never lose hope. A few years after the terrible news of the show’s cancellation came out, we asked its director, Louis Leterrier, if he ever thought it might come back, and he was cautiously optimistic. That was a few weeks ago, and we asked Brian Henson, current president of the Henson Company, about it. He suggested that although it probably would not return to Netflix, its world The Dark Crystal May continue.
Both of these sound great until you look at the cold, hard facts of how the company sells all this stuff. Now, to be fair, if you look at the totality of what’s being auctioned, there aren’t any major, main characters in there. No hero Gelfling or Skeksis puppets. They are not cleaning the house completely. But, there are some impressive Skeksis animatronics, every type of weapon and prop you can imagine, as well as plenty of helpful Gelflings and Podlings available. You can also buy the actual Dual Glaive, which was a big part of the show’s mythology. However, the real heartbreak, the one that really feels like a stab in the back, is that the original, screen-used, full-size Crystal of Truth prop is being sold. you will probably need real dark crystal if you were making more dark crystal, But, alas, no one will be able to buy it.
Which, on the one hand, is pretty cool. A true fan will not only own real dark crystalBut so many other pieces of this incredible show. And yet, the fact that the company is selling these parts is a sad way of realizing that we may never see this world quite like this again.
