Winter Weather Advisory: Up to 2 inches of rain possible in areas of Cincinnati

Well, let’s check in with meteorologist Adam Burniston. I know we’re going to see some panic, but I hope it doesn’t happen. Yes, it should not be anywhere near our area. If that was the case, then something has gone seriously wrong for our field. But overall we’re looking at some snow there this weekend. And it’s coming from the west with this system and there’s some mixing in there as well, which makes it a little tricky for us. If you want ice, at least for us, get more ice with this type of setup. So we have this system to the west, you can see a mix of rain and snow over northern Missouri around Kansas City that’s basically moving straight east, and we’re getting right to that edge of seeing some snow, but also seeing a mix of rain as we get through Saturday evening into Sunday morning. So right now we have a winter weather advisory for parts of Warren, Butler and Ohio counties in the state of Ohio, and Franklin and Union counties in Indiana. So that winter weather advisory begins from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Sunday. Now it will not come to our area at 7 am. In fact, the biggest effects don’t really come until after sunset. We may still see some snow in parts of our area, especially in the north, during the afternoon. But that could lead to a light coating, maybe some smooth spots, the big impact is really coming at us as we get closer to 8:00 o’clock on Saturday night, we’ll start to see some snow showers start to make their way through, and during this time the model also keeps pulling some of those heavier bands a little bit further south, while we can still see, we’re likely to see some snow in these areas. We will also see that this model is not visible in those areas. So snowfall totals are going to be very low across northern Kentucky, south central Ohio and even around Cincinnati. It will depend on how much accumulation we can achieve. Because as it moves east overnight Sunday, we’re already facing some rain on the way, which will reduce or even melt some of the snowfall. Whatever is on the ground gets compacted and turns into mud. And then as we go through the rest of your Sunday morning, the last bits of rain move in with just a few flurries as per the forecast. As far as snowfall accumulations go, the better chances are actually in areas where we see winter weather advisories at this time. Still expect about an inch, two plus inches in some of those areas, especially in the north and east, north and west. But it’s basically lined up if you can, only if you can imagine about 71 here. So northwest of that, north of 275 and also almost north of 74. Looking at that area of snowfall for Northern Kentucky, South Central Ohio, it may be difficult to see any kind of accumulation other than some light snow that falls from the sky and then basically melts upon contact with the ground. Either way, you’ll still want to be cautious on the roads there as there will likely be some slick spots due to the cold, and any snow that starts to stick to the pavement may also become slick. So temperatures tonight will stay in the low 20s by tomorrow morning, and then we’ll just begin a slow climb through the 20s into the mid to upper 30s. We actually climb from afternoon to evening, which gives us a bit of a mix in the area. But after Sunday we’ll have mid 30s. That system dissipates quickly and then we’re straight back into another system, midnight Monday into Tuesday. We will see another winter weather maker move into our area, providing us with another chance for accumulating snowfall. There are some slick roads there, so we’ll have to see that on Tuesday. Otherwise, the chill of winter will persist
