Hideo Kojima Unveiled death stranding isolation (working title), an original anime series based on their franchise, is coming to Disney+ in 2027. The gaming giant made the announcement at a Disney+ event in Hong Kong with series director Sano Takayuki. This will be Kojima Productions’ first partnership with a global streaming platform, with Kojima serving as an executive producer.
The series will tell a new story set within the Death Stranding universe and will not draw from the narrative of any game. All we know so far is that it will “follow a young man and woman who set out on an adventure” and will use traditional hand-drawn 2D animation. Who created the concept art displayed at the event? In 2023, Kojima revealed that production company A24 was collaborating with Kojima Productions on a Death Stranding live action film project. At the time, he said that “My goal is to present a new dimension of cinematic adaptation that goes beyond simply turning a game into a live-action film.” That film will be directed by Michael Sarnosky (A Quiet Place: Day 1).
Live action series and movies based on games have been popping up everywhere recently, but the number of animated productions is also on the rise. Many of them are on Netflix, including Splinter Cell: Deathwatch, of difference, Castlevania And Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft, death stranding isolation (working title), appears to be the first gaming IP-based animation series for Disney+.
