The show has already been renewed for a second season, and there are more stories from George R.R. Martin’s Dunk and Egg, so the focus now turns to what might be next for our intrepid duo.
The thing is, even though Dunk appears to finish the season without knowing where he wants to go next, Clue Dhey Point to a clear destination. Let’s open it.
‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ Targaryen family tree: How everyone connects
What happens to Dunk and Egg at the end of the finale?
Dunk becomes a guy with nowhere to go at the beginning of the season and then he becomes a guy fielded multiple offers at the end of the season – but in the end, it’s the open road and the hedge knight life that calls to him.
After confirming to his new friend Raymun Fossoway (Shawn Thomas) that he is not planning to return to Storm’s End with Ser Lionel Baratheon (Daniel Ings), Dunk takes his horses and begins to move on. “I don’t know, chestnut, stop asking me,” he grumbles. “Where will the old man go?”

However, as he was leaving, Egg caught him and lied to Dunk that his father had given him permission to become Dunk’s servant. As they were leaving on their horses, the following conversation took place between the two:
Egg: “Where are we going, sir?”
Sting: “Dunno. I guess we could go anywhere in the seven kingdoms, although I’ve never been to d—”
Egg: “Nine.”
Sting: “What?”
Egg: “There are nine kingdoms, sir.”
Sting: “What about?”
Egg: “Area.”
Sting: “Are you crazy?”
Egg: “Is it relevant?”
Sting: “There are seven kingdoms in this area, boy. Everyone knows that.”
Egg: “Then everyone is wrong.”
Sting: “Do you want ear studs?”
Egg: “The Crownlands, the Westerlands, the Stormlands, the Riverlands, the Iron Islands, the North, the Reach, the Vale of Arryn, and Dorne.”
Sting: “No, but…”
Egg: “I’ve never been to Red Mountain before. I heard they have good puppet shows in Dorne.”
We end the season without knowing for sure where they’re going next. But at the same time, all the clues are pointing in the same direction.
Where will Dunk and Egg go next?
We know that after escaping Ashford, Tanselle (Tanzin Crawford) and her group of puppeteers fled to Dorne – hence Egg’s final comment about a “good puppet show”. Dunk is also about to say, “I’ve never been to Dorne,” before he is interrupted by Egg, and Egg’s comment about “never been to Red Mountain” refers to the mountain range that separates Dorne from their current location in The Reach.
If you look closely at the final shot of them riding through the field, you can also see a mountain in the distance – presumably the Red Mountain that Egg is talking about.
conclusion? Unless this is all a giant red herring, it seems pretty clear that Dunk and Egg are at least Plan Head to Dorne next. Whether they’ll already be there by the time Season 2 starts, or still be on their way, is another question.
