50 p.m.; ‘Hit N Run’ boats second catch of the day

MOREHEAD CITY, NC (Witten) – A second team set sail for the Blue Marlin today, soon to have its first catch of the day on the second day of the Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament.

Marlin Fever set sail in a blue marlin around 12:50 a.m. Tuesday, about two hours after first joining. It has an ETA of 2:50 pm to reach the scales.

Hit N Run is the second Blue Marlin to sail today at 2:20 p.m., about 30 minutes after the first was caught. ETA has not been announced.

This comes after an exciting first day at Big Rock Landing with two blue marlin on the scales on Monday.

‘Savannah Lay’ brought back a 439.2-pound blue marlin yesterday, the first blue marlin weighed in the 68th annual tournament.

According to the tracker, the fish is currently worth $5.7 million.

The big catch still remained in the lead after ‘Free Ranger’ took a marlin into the boat that was only three pounds short, weighing in at 436.2 pounds.

Both catches fell short of qualifying for the $871,250 Fabulous Fisherman prize, which requires a fish weighing more than 500 pounds.

A total of 73 billfish were caught and released yesterday.

According to the tournament tracker, 211 boats went out fishing today.

The total purse for this year’s tournament is more than $9 million.
