49ers LB Fred Warner provides positive update on recovery from injury

The San Francisco 49ers lost linebacker Fred Warner to a dislocated and fractured ankle during the team’s Week 6 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Warner underwent surgery shortly thereafter and this week he informed about his recovery.

“We’re a little over five weeks post-op,” Warner said on his podcast. “Man, we have a huge day coming up that I can’t wait to talk about… I finally get a chance to take my boot off. I’ve been wearing that boot since my surgery. (Nov. 25) I get to take the boot off, and finally get off this scooter… Rehab is going great. I’m making steady progress every day. I think, right now, the biggest thing is getting full range of motion back in the ankle after the operation and getting that Building up that strength a little bit. I think the biggest thing right now is the progression from not being on my own two feet to suddenly being on my own two feet. I’m just following doctors’ orders.

Warner also shared that he started walking on a treadmill underwater, which was the first time he was able to walk on an ankle. While this is all good news, the linebacker still has a long recovery ahead of him, so it still seems like the goal is for him to return next year.
