A pileup involving about 45 vehicles occurred on an interstate in Indiana.
The incident happened Saturday, Nov. 29, in the westbound lanes of I-70 near downtown Terre Haute, according to an email sent to the public by Indiana State Police Public Information Officer Matt Ames.
AIIMS said no major injuries were reported.
The incident occurred shortly before 10 a.m. local time during snowy conditions, according to a Facebook Live video shared by AIIMS about the incident. Ames also noted that officials were seeing “slide-off” on the east side of the highway as well.
In a follow-up Facebook Live post shared by Ames about five hours after his initial Facebook update, he reported that the accident had been cleared, but snow had begun to fall again.
He shared some basic road safety tips for local drivers.
“Number one – if you don’t have to make any unnecessary travel, please stay home this evening so the roads can be better tomorrow,” he said in the update.
He added, “If you must get out, make sure your headlights are on, make sure you’re buckled up, and definitely not driving distracted.”
He said the most “important thing” drivers can do to stay safe in winter weather is to “reduce your speed and increase all your following distances.”
