The good folks at Emojipedia noticed that Unicode had quietly updated its archives with nine proposed new emoji concepts for Emoji 18.0 due out in September 2026.
Here’s the full list of proposed additions, as described by Emojipedia:
Mashable Trend Report
- smiling face with slanted eyes
-
thumbs up gesture to the left
-
right thumb gesture
-
A monarch butterfly (as opposed to non-specified 🦋)
-
a pickle (opposite of a) 🥒 cucumber)
-
lighthouse
-
a meteor (opposite of a) ☄️ Comet,
-
An eraser for removing pencil marks from paper
-
A net with a handle, such as that used to catch insects
In my opinion, pickles and meteors are great additions here. a pickle Is Can be useful other than cucumber. And, well, the way things are going, a crashing meteor emoji might prove useful too. The proposed new emoji looks like this.

To be clear, just because these are emojis Proposed This does not mean that they will ultimately be approved. And even if they get approved, there’s quite a long process before you see the new emojis on your keyboard. Unicode is the organization that approves designs for new emoji, but then requires big tech companies to implement changes.
But, still, we may soon have pickle and meteor emojis available. So that’s good.
