There was no shortage of old movies returning to the big screen in 2025, and that won’t change in 2026 either. Next year, The Jim Henson Company is teaming up with Fathom Events maze Re-release treatment.
The Henson-directed film will turn 40 in June 2026 (and December in the UK), and to celebrate, Fathom is bringing the film back. From January 8 to January 11, audiences can watch the 4K restoration including a special feature celebrating longtime fans of the film that was filmed at a recently themed Experience Ball in the UK.
Fathom CEO Ray Nutt wrote, “We are honored to bring this 1986 epic back to theaters to mark Sony Pictures’ 40th anniversary in this special presentation and provide a spectacular night at the movies for audiences of all ages.” “The magical combination of Jim Henson, George Lucas, David Bowie, Jennifer Connelly and hundreds of extraordinary creatures and puppets from Jim Henson’s Creature Shop created maze A historical fantasy classic that Fathom Entertainment audiences have loved for years.”
Marking Connelly’s feature film debut, maze It bombed at the box office in the US, and was much more successful in the UK. (Having Bowie in your lead probably helps.) Despite an initially mixed reaction, it has been warmly reevaluated over the years due to its home video success, and is considered a cult classic. It also had a good shelf life thanks to expanded media such as video games and books, including a sequel comic. Sony announced in 2016 that it was developing a sequel, and nothing actually came of it until last January when Robert Eggers was tapped to direct.
Until that new flick comes out, you can get tickets for maze Reissue here.
