Before the Seattle Seahawks and Minnesota Vikings kicked off, two of the greatest catches in Pacific Northwest history held a historic meeting. Well, something like this.
On a day when the Seahawks decorated Lumen Field in 1980s blue, the team – especially receiver Cooper Kupp – honored a visit from the Mariners’ All-World slugger Cal Raley. The “Big Dumper” — who finished a close second to New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge in the 2025 American League MVP voting — was on the sidelines when Kupp approached for a hug and a photo.

The Seahawks’ official social media post said: “The game’s identity game.” For us, it’s like “recognizing the catcher by the catcher.”

Kupp had three catches for 24 yards and a key recovery from a Sam Darnold fumble as the Seahawks took a 3–0 lead in the second quarter. With the Los Angeles Rams suffering a shocking loss to the Carolina Panthers early Sunday, the Seahawks have a real opportunity to win out and move to the top of the NFC West standings with a 9-3 record.
Cupp and Raleigh kept a close eye on each other’s exploits.
When Raleigh won the All-Star Home Run Derby, Kupp congratulated him on social media. The two cheered together when Kupp threw the first pitch at a Mariners game at T-Mobile Park later in July.

Raley led the AL with 125 RBI and 60 home runs, the most by a catcher in a single season in Major League Baseball history. Kupp had a similarly dominant season for the Rams in 2021, when he won the NFL’s Triple Crown in catches, yards and receiving touchdowns, was named Super Bowl LVI MVP and finished third in MVP voting behind only Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady.
