Winter Weather Advisory: More than 2-4 inches of snow fell overnight, morning commute affected
Ok. Turning to your forecast, I know right now you’re probably looking out the window saying there’s no snow. I think I’ll be better tomorrow. It is coming. Yes. Hope you’re not like that, bear. And tomorrow you may find yourself in some tight spots. You know, so keep some extra time in mind for the morning commute. I imagine some kids will be very happy with this forecast tomorrow, but here’s a live look at Fountain Square. And it’s a little hard to see. But if you look in the camera there, or I should say if you look at the light at the very bottom of the screen, you look very closely. You can actually see that some of the smaller pieces are now actually starting to reach the ground. It is taking some time for us to moisten the atmosphere. There’s a lot of dry air out there, so it’s getting a delay in getting started, but I suspect that maybe tonight when you go to bed, you know, at two, three, 4:00 in the middle of the night, you’ll be looking outside. I think you’ll be surprised. Snowfall should be at a pretty good clip for most of the area, as I still anticipate we will have some pockets of heavy snow overnight. moving in. Ok. You can see the patchy nature of the snow on radar. This is because it is struggling with the dry air there. But we are gradually wetting the atmosphere. So again, you can look straight over the city, we showed you Fountain Square. There is some snow. There are some deep pockets on the Oceana and Ross side. I still think we’re probably an hour or two, maybe three hours or so away from having steady, widespread, impactful snowfall across the entire region. It’s kind of a warm-up as you’re looking toward Mount Auburn, Georgetown, Batavia. New Richmond I know a lot of kids. If you’re like me, you try to stay at the top to see the snow. I still think it’s probably going to take a couple of hours for it to be really impressive tonight, but what I want to show you is that the trailing edge of the snow is still west of St. Louis. Okay, so that means, at the very least, we still have a full six hours of snow ahead of us. Ok. And if you look at the radar, you see how these streaks are reflected back toward St. Louis. This is what we call bound ice. And that’s why while we’re going with the typical 2 to 4, and most of us will have somewhere between two, three inches, maybe four inches of snow. I wouldn’t be surprised if someone achieved even a little bit more. Temperatures are now at or below zero in most cases, so it is too cold for any snowfall. This is a high impact snow. Not because we’re expecting a ton of snowfall, but because of the cold ground and timing. With some moderate to sometimes heavy snowfall just before the morning commute begins. Due to this, roads, bridges, overpasses, everything will become covered with ice and slick. And as I mentioned, still thinking we’re in for 2 to 4 inches of snow in terms of snowfall amounts. One can be an overachiever and get up to five out of this. But I think most of us are in the 2 to 3, 3 to 4 inch range. So here is Futurecast. Note that it is 130. And some dark blue starts to appear. We’re doing some mixing here on the south side. But I really think our southernmost communities will still see mostly snow. Let’s go a little further. You look at it at 4 in the morning, you see how dark these blue colors are. And if you use your imagination, there are some kind of tied features here. I think it was snowing at a good clip for several hours in the morning, probably before the trip. So, I think we’ll see it pile up pretty quickly. And then between about six and eight, it looks like the snow will wrap up. And I think its impact will continue till tomorrow afternoon as well, as we will be mostly cloudy and temperatures will still be below zero. So here we are back in town. You can actually see the hustle action building up a little bit there. 32 Now there is news of light snowfall at the airport also. So it’s all about snow all night and temperatures dropping into the mid 20s. We should reach around 2526 first thing tomorrow morning. Needless to say, leave yourself some extra time if you’re traveling in the area tomorrow morning, as the day will be off to a bit of a rough start. Temperatures will again remain below zero throughout the afternoon. Here’s a look at your planner. So I suspect that secondary roads that are not frequently traveled will still be snow covered for some time. And once we get this snow on the ground, you know the next 1 to 2 weeks are going to be very cold for us. Therefore there will be no hurry in melting the ice. And actually, you know, I think these temperatures are a little conservative even at night, especially at night. I must say, I think we may struggle to get over the cold this week. If we do that, it’ll probably only go up to 35 or 36, so it’s not too much. And those low overnight temperatures, as I mentioned, can be cooled by snow on the ground. And it looks like maybe another round of impressive snow accumulation.
