Well, if you live somewhere where it’s In fact Cool, you just need to get a great big puffer (see below) or learn how to layer well. However, if you just want to wear a jacket and get warm instantly (say, if you’re a hockey or football playing mom who has to sit in a cold bleacher seat), an electric heated jacket is the right choice for you. I have tried several of these Electric Apparel Company brands. Unfortunately, there are a lot of them on Amazon, and most of them are pretty shoddy. The fabric is too thin, or maybe the heating field is uneven so one part of your body gets burned and the other part freezes. Ororo is the best I’ve tried so far.
I tried the version with four heating zones (there is a more expensive version with five heating zones, but four is plenty). The shell is water-resistant and has a hood, and the battery lasts all day on a low setting. Most importantly, the jacket has enough insulation that if the battery dies you won’t immediately wonder why you’re wearing it. You can also charge your device from the battery, which is a fun added feature.
